The Schenectady County Bar Association is an Association of lawyers, mindful of their unique role in the relationship between the community and the law. The Association is formed to facilitate the administration of justice, elevate the standards of integrity, honor and courtesy in the legal profession, promote the interests and welfare of the profession, particularly of the practicing lawyer, and cherish the spirit of collegiality among its members. The SCBA was incorporated in 1916 as a nonprofit corporation.

SCBA Presents May 1, 2018 Law Day Celebration


Saturday, April 28, 2018 :

The Schenectady County Bar Association will be observe Law Day at a special Naturalization Ceremony on May 1, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Schenectady City Hall. In addition, the Schenectady County League of Women Voters will present information on its Citizenship Mentoring program as well as providing an opportunity for citizens, new and old, to register to vote. The Bar Association also will present the Liberty Bell Award, which is given to a non-lawyer in recognition of his or her contributions to the justice system and support of the ideals of freedom and justice. This year’s recipient is Wales Brown.  The Hon. Vincent J. Reilly Jr., retired Supreme Court Judge, will be honored for his years of service to the naturalization program. The public is invited to attend.

The Schenectady County Bar Association is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The SCBA has been providing professional and community service since incorporated in 1916, including continuing legal education, mentoring, public information and legal services programs.

“I am particularly proud to be leading the Schenectady County Bar at this time as we celebrate one hundred years of promoting the legal profession and the administration of justice,” said the SCBA President, the Hon. Mark L. Powers, Schenectady County Family Court Judge and Acting Supreme Court Justice. “We look forward to exploring new ways of furthering the goals of our association while honoring its history.”
